It's no Zodiac, but this was a pretty good crime movie! Usually I hate how movies try to incorperate texts, face time calls, and social media, but this one did it well and in an interesting way, along with how they stitched in news reports throughout to give different perspectives.
The Whale
Fraser and Hong Chau did great for such a dogshit script. Not a big fan of the choice of music and filming style with certain scenes either- sometimes it felt like they put more focus on how 'disgusting' Fraser's appearance was, rather than his awful actions.
Marty Supreme
This felt like a 2.5hr long anxiety attack. Every ADHD, reckless, MILF loving white boy I've ever met acts like Marty, so either Timothy wasn't acting, or he's the best damn actor of this generation. Great movie, not a sports movie. There's like 2 minutes of sports in a 2.5 hr long movie
Early Man
This movie was made to be watched on a roll out TV cart in gym class when the P. E. teachers have nothing planned and let you watch a movie as long as it's 'sports related'. Wanted this to be great because I love claymation, but it was extremely forgettable.
Beau Is Afraid
If I had a nickel for every Ari Aster movie with a fucked up main character I can heavily relate to, I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. I liked the beginning and middle. I thought it was a great depiction of how anxiety makes you percieve the world. The ending is where it lost me... and maybe that's because I couldn't relate to it? Idk. I'm also realizing after this movie that I just don't like Joaquin Phoenix as an actor. And as far as Oddessey retellings go... this one might be the worst I've seen so far :/
The Sheep Detectives
The acting is,, not my favorite style, but it's over the top in a way that makes sense for a kids movie and they're interacting with a bunch of CGI sheep. so it gets a pass. I thought this movie tackled explaining the concept of death to kids pretty well, and it made me and my mother cry lol
Landscape with Invisible Hand
Not an exciting and action packed SciFi movie, it deals with more of the day to day struggles of an alien invasion. Interesting take on aliens, probably would be more enjoyable reading rather than as a movie.
Paris, Texas
LOVED the camerawork and set design in this movie, very beautiful. Quiet in the first 3/4ths of the film, then dialogue heavy in the last part, which I liked. It was good, but I feel like either I or the movie itself is missing *something*, but I don't know what. Probably wouldn't rewatch unless it was to analyze the movie more, but I'd reccomend it to an artsy/film buff friend.
